One person - American collector Norton Dodge - spent three decades, beginning in the mid-1950s, collecting and bringing out of the Soviet Union works of unofficial, underground art. He granted them freedom.
The Dodge Collection - more than 20,000 works by nonconformist artists - is regarded as the largest and, in scholarly terms, one of the most informative in the world. It was donated to the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University(USA).

Art historians from different countries contributed essays, introducing the artists whose works entered the collection of Norton and Nancy Dodge. It is a remarkable gift for everyone who studies art today - or will do so in the future.
