Ülo Sooster

"He wanted to connect everything and everyone.

... in his frequent motif of eggs, there is a certain idea of a holistic view of the world, an attempt to reduce everything to one, and, conversely, to extract everything from one..."

"The whole point is that what seems especially mysterious and enigmatic to everyone who knew Ülo, and what many speak about with surprise, is his 'non-disappearance,' his ongoing, almost constant presence, as if he is still here with us..."

In 2023, the Sooster Foundation was established in Estonia.

The main goal of the foundation is to preserve, develop, and protect Ülo Sooster's legacy.

Two other goals are in line with the principles that were very important to the artist himself: innovation in art and bringing together creative, active, and responsible people.

The goals of the foundation:

  • Preservation, development, and protection of the legacy of the artist Ülo Sooster
  • Uniting creative, active, and responsible individuals in the fields of art and culture
  • Supporting innovation in art

The values of the foundation:

  • Respect for and study of history
  • A forward-looking vision
  • The unique role of art in personal development

The foundation supports exhibitions, the preparation of art historical research and publications, collects and organizes information about various stages of Ülo Sooster's life and work, and conducts expertise on his artworks.

The Supervisory Board of the Sooster Foundation is chaired by Tenno Sooster.

These two photographs are separated by more than half a century. In the first, the artist Ülo Sooster holds his young son Tenno in his arms. In the second, the artist Tenno Sooster stands next to his father's paintings at the exhibition "Visual Arts of the 1960s in Tartu,"which took place at the Tartu Art Museum (16.09.2023 - 25.02.2024).

Tenno has lived and worked in Israel for over 30 years. However, Estonia remains an integral part of both his personal and creative life. He is a member of the Estonian Artists' Union.
