"Surrealism 100. Prague, Tartu and other stories"

A real surprise awaits those interested in Ülo Sooster’s art works at the exhibition 'Surrealism 100: Prague, Tartu, and Other Stories.'

Sixty years ago, in 1964, Ülo painted the 'An Egg through the Window' art work in Moscow. After some time, he gifted it to the Czech art historian and collector Dušan Konečhný. It says in Estonian on the back of the painting: 'parimate soovidega' ('with best wishes').

In 1970, just two months after the artist's death, Dušan Konečhný donated the art work to the National Gallery in Prague.

For many years, the painting remained in the silence of the Gallery storerooms until it caught the attention of the art historian Julia Tatiana Bailey.

And today, everyone interested in of Ülo Sooster’s art works can see it in Tartu at the exhibition 'Surrealism 100: Prague, Tartu, and Other Stories.' The exhibition is open until September 8, 2024.
