23 competition works from 19 authors took part in the idea contest for the memorial artist gilo Sooster, organized in cooperation with the Sooster Foundation and Hiiumaa Municipal Government. The competition turned out to be popular in terms of participation and high-level in terms of competition work, therefore it was not easy for the jury to choose the best from the many very good offers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The works of the competition were evaluated by a six-member jury, which included the heir of hindlo Sooster and the legal holder of the copyrights, Tenno Pent Sooster, member of the Estonian Artists' Association, Kaire N\u00f5mm, architect of Hiiumaa Municipal Government, Helgi P\u00f5llo, researcher and cultural historian of Hiiumaa Museums, Helgi Kaljula, manager of the Estonian Art Museum's Painting Council and art scientist Liisa Kaljula, director of the Estonian Museum's Sculpture Council, art scientist and more. observator Alexander Meresaar and Mikhail Ayvazov, member of the SA Sooster Foundation board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aleksander Litvinov's design \"Forms\" was chosen as the winner of the competition (1. yes 2. photo) which is based on fotolo Sooster's painting of the same name, giving the artist's significant work a shape of a permanent bronze sculpture and skillfully tying it to the public space in front of K\u00e4rdla Music School. Due to the high level of competition work, the jury decided to announce three more prize places in addition to the winner. Second place went to Viktor Kiss with the design \"A man who dried a towel in the wind\" (3. photo) and the third and fourth places were given by Vergo Vernik, Toivo Tammik and Andres M\u00e4gi's design \"Juniors\" (4). photo) and with Jass Kaselaan's design \"The jackal that has grown from a brain\" (5. photo).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The jury considered important for the usmlo Sooster memorial to the relationship between the competition works with the artist's creative heritage and the ability to create an impressive and memorable public space work, that would take into account the special context of Hiiumaa and fit into the small town environment of K\u00e4rdla. Chairman of the jury Tenno Pent Sooster: \"As there was a consensus among the jury members regarding that a memorial should not be erected so much for slo Sooster's person as for his creative heritage, the competition works offering figurative solutions were preferred to those that were more connected with Sooster's symbolic language, formal imagination and creative spirit of his creations.\" \u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding the memorial material, the jury preferred maintenance-free materials, that have proven itself in history and would ensure the long-term preservation of the memorial. Jury member Kaire N\u00f5mm: \"Among the competition, more were highlighted those that could appeal to people passing by in K\u00e4rdla every day, including schoolchildren, and which seemed to have a greater potential to become a meaningful landmark also for the visitors of Hiiumaa.\" \"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In cooperation with Hiiumaa Municipal Government, the square in the center of K\u00e4rdla has been chosen as the location of the memorial, Uus t\u00e4nav 4, which is close to Sooster's former school and where many educational institutions are still located today. The memorial will be opened in the center of K\u00e4rdla, Soosteri 103. on the anniversary of my birth 17. in October 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
